truth and reconciliation

In the spirit of reconciliation, we acknowledge that we live, work and inspire on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy, the Tsuut’ina, the Îyâxe Nakoda Nations, the Métis Nation, and all of those who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta.

kennedy bruno: kanata orange shirt design

Twelve-year old Kennedy Bruno (Cree/Mohawk) from the Samson Cree Nation in Alberta has a vision to help unite Indigenous and non-Indigenous across Canada. This vision was the inspiration for her Kanata shirt design for non-Indigenous supporters.

The word "Kanata", from which Canada got its name, means "it's clean" in Cree and was the term given to describe the beautiful Canadian landscape. The shirt is a call to action for all Canadians to learn about the true history of Canada and to share that truth. The image's floral design is traditional imagery associated with the Cree in Alberta—overlayed on the Canadian flag, the flowers give a sense of the Country's foundation built on Treaty Relationships. The three hands within the maple leaf represent the First Nations, Metis and Inuit, and the colourful spray at the bottom of the leaf represents the Two Spirited peoples {LGBTQIA2S+).

The image emphasizes bringing all peoples together at the heart of our country—we all have an obligation to give voice to the voiceless and to work toward building lasting connections and partnerships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous in Canada.

our goal

Our aim is to recognize and honour the legacy of residential schools this Truth and Reconciliation Day while integrating inclusive values in all aspects of the organization. All proceeds made from shirts purchased will go towards Kennedy’s involvement with non-profit organizations as well as Impact Society’s Indigenous and reconciliation-based program development.

The shirts are offered at a price of $25.00 and can be purchased on the online storefront. Each purchase signifies support in a step toward understanding and uniting the country that extends far beyond September 30th, National Truth and Reconciliation Day. This distinctive opportunity empowers you to become an integral part of a united effort towards reconciliation.
