Impact Society began our Capital Campaign in 2007 with a
goal to raise $2.75 million over five years to help enhance the foundation of
Impact Society in three key areas ...
- Program Efficacy - Over
the years, we have observed mountains of anecdotal evidence that has
demonstrated the power of HEROES .
However, the Capital Campaign has made it possible for Impact to work
with psychologist Dr. Wayne Hammond of Calgary-based Resiliency Initiatives has
studied students who went through the HEROES program. They showed a dramatic
improvement in empathy, planning and decision-making, self-esteem, resistance
skills, restraint and 26 other characteristics that contribute to greater
resilience in youth. Impact plans to
continue to work with Dr. Hammond and Resiliency Initiatives to utilize this
research to continue to enhance HEROES and our other existing programs but also
to incorporate the findings into the development of new programs in the
future.
- Curriculum
Development – In 2007-2008, Impact Society revised HEROES to update it and
enhance its’ effectiveness. As well, we
are nearly finished our long-awaited H2, the natural next step for students
following HEROES, and we are currently piloting our LEGENDS Parenting
program. These program enhancements
along with future plans are all funded through support received through our
Capital Campaign.
- Hardware/Software/Website – Impact Society is not planning to build or buy a new building (as many
Capital Campaigns have as an objective) but we are definitely looking forward
to updating our Computer Hardware, Software and our website. This new website is a result of funding that
has been provided through the Capital Campaign and through TransCanada
Corporations sponsorship, but this is only Phase 1. We have ambitious plans to enhance the site
so that it can be most effective at providing resources to instructors, school
teachers, students, parents and other members of our community as we work to
make the pre-teen and teen years transformational instead of tough.
Currently, we are pleased to be able to report we have
received funding or commitments of $1.25 million and are optimistic that we
will be able to secure the commitments for the remaining $1.5 million over the
next 12 -18 months.
